Review book swampage! A call for Beta Readers! Old Spice Guy as Luke Cage?

It's been quite a busy week, not least of all the fact that Mithril Wisdom has just passed the 200 post benchmark (yay, me!). It's kind of weird to think that I've fed you guys all matter of nonsense 200 times, but I like to think that it's informative nonsense, hehe.

I've recently come into possession of quite a few review copies recently. In addition to my already growing pile, I've been sent copies of China Mieville's Embassytown, Rhydian's Quest by V.S. Jones, Roots Run Deep by A.J. Walker, and a stack of four more books from the guys at Tor. I'm going to be very busy, so I best find a quiet corner and get to it!

Mel over at Writings, Musings and Other Such Nonsense is looking for beta readers for her new book. If you want to help out or can recommend anyone to her, click on the link above and let her know. It'd be much appreciated :)

UPDATE: I've just read this great post by SQT over at Fantasy & SciFi Lovin' about the validity of rape in literature. It's an excellent article, take a look and add to the discussion.

Here's a strange thing I picked up on the Internet too. Remember Isiah Mustafa, the Old Spice Guy? You know, the 'Hello ladies. Look at your man, now back to me' guy? Well, he's been pitching to play Marvel's Luke Cage for a while now, so much so that he release a 40 second trailer to convince the powers that be that he should play the superhero. Sadly, Youtube has pulled the video (due to a copyright claim by Mustafa himself, nonetheless) so keep an eye out for it. It's pretty awesome.

UPDATE #2: The clip is back up on YouTube. Watch it before it gets pulled again!

  3. Congratulations on the 200 post mark! I just passed my 100 mark a week or so ago. I just want to say that yes, your posts are very informative and have given my already buzzing brain even more new ideas for new writing projects! I just need to pull all these loose ideas in to make one great idea that can become my new WIP! :)

So keep up the great work! I very much enjoy reading your posts!

  5. Not a bad bid for the role! And rape is just something I don't want to see in my books, movies, or anything. Know it happens, don't want to read about it.

  6. Congrats on 200 posts, and good luck getting through your TBR pile!

I echo Alex - I can't stand reading about rape. I read to escape reality, not be reminded of the horrible shit that's happened to women throughout history (and continues unfortunately). Even the scene in Pulp Fiction, which has nothing to do with women, just totally freaks me out.

  7. I think HOLLYWOOD SPY has about 1,300 posts or something like that. I might need a shrink or something.
