In the mailbox - a video reveal

Box with questions marks on the sides

I've been wanting to do this for a while. This is my first Mithril Wisdom unboxing video, in which I open up a mystery book sent to me by a publisher. I had no clue what was being sent to me, so I decided to record the unboxing and my reactions. I've also done a voice over for the official blurb of the book. I realised I sound so much more Welsh when my voice is recorded.

Thanks to Chatto & Windus for sending me the book that I won on Twitter. Looks like I'm in for a treat! I'm in two minds about whether or not to do these mystery unboxing videos every now and again to shake things up; rather than having the usual "in my mailbox" posts.

Do you prefer these video reveals to standard [book cover - blurb] mailbox posts?
What would make them even better for you (be brutally honest; I'm always looking to improve)?
Why do I sound so damn Welsh on camera?

    'Loving sadist??????'

Jamie, this was so good -- so incredibly enjoyable! My daughter just said she loved it, too. Especially the intro and the bit about the egg sandwiches.

You sound wonderfully Welsh! Love the transition at about 1.16 -- nice touch! And, actually, the book sounds really interesting! My only suggestion? Uh, where's the face? :)

  5. I figured you guys weren't ready for the face just yet, hehe. Actually I hadn't shaved so I looked a bit like a hobo at the time, so I figured it would be better to keep the focus on the parcel.

Glad you liked it - the book sounds awesome, I can't wait to get stuck in!

  8. I'm glad the accent was okay. Some people say that the Valleys accent is unintelligible unless you're from there :)

Ahhh this is a stroke of genius Jamie :)
Loving the accent chap...there was an "I'm not going to lie to you" and a "tidy", any chance you could do me a massive favour and throw in an "Oh, what's occuring?" next time, pleaseplease?? :)

  10. Thanks :) Here's hoping that I get more mystery parcels to carry this on. I am a little worried that I'll open one up and go "oh, that's rubbish. Cheers" but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

ha, I'll do my best to put into context and get in the line for you :) There is a "Shwmae?" right at the start, but it's hard to heard over the crossfade.

I have to tell you, you brought levity to a bit of a doom and gloom day (apparently, this is when the panic and such catch up, boo for being a cliche), so I loved it! Quite fun. I hope you continue to do these when you get them. I was highly amused by the musical intro, and the voice over was great. Book sounds quite interesting.

  12. Glad I could help in my small way, Shannon :) I hope that things don't get too bad where you are. Fingers crossed I won't have to wait long for the next mystery post; I had a lot of fun doing this!

  15. Love the video!

And um... maybe because you *are* Welsh? :)

  16. You'd be one of the first, Susan :)

  17. Thanks :) I'm hoping to do more, though maybe with an accent that isn't so thick, hehe.

  18. Ha! That could be one of the reasons, though it's a lot Welshier than normal :)
