I've been struggling for a little while to find a decent zombie game on my HTC, but I think I've found a winner with Zombie Evil. The premise is simple enough. You are one of the last defences of humanity in the middle of a zombie outbreak (a MASSIVE zombie outbreak) and all you have to defend yourself is a little barrier and an assortment of guns to take out the waves of the undead. Kill zombies, upgrade your weapons, kills more zombies more efficiently. It's part tower defence, part shoot 'em up and total fun.

High replay value

This is a game that I could keep playing again and again. Each type of zombie has a quirk that means a certain weapon or tactic is more efficient than another e.g. zombie dogs are better offed with a shotgun as they come near your base, wheras the fat zombies need to be pulverised into oblivion before they get anywhere near you as they explode. The different tactics you need for these different zombies (and you always get a mix in every level) means that you'll keep replaying levels to up your ranking, get chain combos and earn extra coins to purchase weapon upgrades. While you can spent real cash to give yourself a coin bonus, there's no fun lost in earning the coins the slow way.

Cute and deadly

What makes Zombie Evil such a fun game is that, despite the uninterrupted wave of carnage you're unleashing, the zoms themselves are kind of cute. Most of the enemies have this cross-eyed, derpy look about them, giving them an appearance similar to Plants vs. Zombies and Zombie Farm. The loading screen jars a little with its very serious depiction of the conflict (though it looks great) as the rest of the game is kind of cute and cuddly.

Quick, zippy games

Each level can be played in a minute or so, meaning it's a perfect game to play while waiting in line on the bus (although chances are you'll paly through 5 levels before you realise you meant to play just one). The touch controls are quite intuitive for the smaller screens too, meaning you don't lose your kill streak accidentally.

If you own an Android phone, you should definitely check out Zombie Evil. It's cute, it's quick and it's a hell of a lot of fun. Hopefully FT Games will port it to iOS soon; it would be great to play it on an iPad.

    1. The site itself says it's on iOS, but the link to download it goes nowhere, so I'm assuming it's in the works.

  2. Oh no, just what I need is another game on my phone. They are so tempting time wasters.

  3. My significant other has played a lot of different zombie games on his phone but I don't think he's played this one. I'll have to tell him about it.

I played Plants vs. Zombies on an iPad once during a visit to the Apple store and this little kid watching over my shoulder kept making fun of me because I was so bad at it. It was a little demoralizing.

    1. I've not played PvZ a great deal, but I've had the snotty little kid in the Apple Store though. I feel your pain.
