Douglas Adams honoured in Google Doodle

Douglas Adams Google Doodle
Today is the late Douglas Adams' 61st birthday, and to celebrate, doodle masters Google have come up with an interactive Doodle that showcases his most iconic themes.

The Doodle features your standard British cup of tea (vital for almost every aspect of your life), a towel (it's a tough galaxy. If you want to survive out there you need to know where your towel is).

You've also got a working copy of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy that explains how the Babelfish works, and if you hover over the elevator door at the left ... well, you'll get a surprise.

I've only read Adams' Hitchhiker's series (the BBC TV series and the movie version were good too) and I've seen the TV adaptation of his Dirk Gently series, but I love his style of humour.

Happy birthday, good sir. You will be missed.

Are you fans of Douglas Adams? What's your favourite Adams novel?

  1. Read a couple Hitchhiker books, but that was it. He'd only be sixty-one? Wow, too young.

    1. Definitely too young; I think he died before he hit 50

  2. Douglas is terribly missed. His brand of humour was unique. But it does live on in others like Neil Gaiman, and in comic novels like THE MYOSHI EFFECT. Happy Bday DNA.

    1. Very true - he's been such an inspiration that it's not difficult for his legacy to live on.

  3. I've head Hitchhikers as well as the Dirk Gently books (a long time ago, granted), but never knew they did a t.v. adaptation of DG. I'll have to look that up :)

Adams died too young, for sure.

    1. It only got optioned for a single series, even though there was a crazy good response to the pilot episode. Check it out :)

  5. I love Google's Doodle today. I usually like them, but this one was really awesome.

Oh, and if you keep clicking on the Guide it will show you other scenes from the book--I sat there for about ten minutes going through all of them. :P
