New teaser trailer and poster for The Wolverine - six seconds of awesome

The Wolverine movie logo

The Wolverine has a lot to prove.

After the gods-awful mess that was X-Men Origins: Wolverine (which disappointed me all the more because I'm a huge Gambit fan), and the success of X-Men: First Class, director James Mangold has to deliver to a fanbase that's use to both elation and disappointment. Good luck with that, James.

Yesterday, Marvel released the international poster for The Wolverine, with Hugh Jackman reprising his role as Shredder's hairy older brother.

The Wolverine international poster

Besides the whole 3D thing, it's a pretty cool poster (plus it's got some topless Jackman action for the ladies). Wolverine looks pretty pissed off, and I like the slightly dystopian feel to the setting (though the synopsis says it's set in modern day Japan).

Marvel have also released a 6-second teaser trailer ('tweaser') for The Wolverine, exclusive to Vine.

There's sword fighting, a samurai, various shots of Wolverine looking pissed off, a cameo by Famke Jenssen (Jean Grey / Phoenix) and lots more sword fighting. It looks like it's shaping up to be a pretty good action movie, if nothing else. The full trailer (or at least a longer teaser) will be released in 2 days' time.

What do you think of the X-Men movies? Do you think you'll go see The Wolverine?

  1. Yes, it has to be better than the origins film! As long as the reviews don't suck, I'll go see it. (My wife will want to see it regardless after seeing the poster, I'm sure.)

    1. I think most ladies will be the same, Alex :) I think I'll have to get myself a monthly cinema pass for all the good movies out this Summer :)

  2. I don't think an of the x-men/wolverine movies have really captured the comics (Wolverine is short and ugly, Cyclops isn't 12)), but they're still kind of fun. Nice to see these characters I grew up with walking around like real people.

    1. Yeah, I found that more than a little strange.
I think if I rewatched X Men Origins and switched my brain off, it might be fun (Wade's sass at the beginning was funny).

  3. Count me in as someone else who was really disappointed with X-Men Origins: Wolverine. I'm hoping this one will pull the movie version of the character out of the doldrums.

X-Men: First Class, though, I really enjoyed!

  4. Man, i am totally with you on Wolverine. I was so excited for Gambit. I'm such a huge Gambit fan and have been since i was a kid. What a massiveletdown that i'm still pissed about. Though i will say, i love the first 10 minutes of that movie, with the montage of them fighting and surviving through all the wars and Creed just getting darker and darker. I was so excited after that, and then my excitement just slowly faded to disappointment

  6. Um, of course I'm going to see a movie with Wolverine in it. Besides being one of the most interesting X-Men, he's played by HUGH JACKMAN.
