UPDATED 28th May 2014
Banshee is live! After a year in development, the game is now released in beta on Facebook for those who backed the project. Head on to Banshee's Facebook Page and see how long you can survive!

Today is the launch of a Kickstarter project for Banshee - a multiplayer Facebook horror game where humans and spirits battle for control of the city. If you choose to ally with the humans, you have to band together to survive the night and take back the city. If you side with the spirits, your task is to terrify the human survivors to death. Here's a rundown of the project from the Kickstarter page:

How will the game play?

Banshee is a game about survival and discovery, with the indirect result of territorial conflict. The two teams will try to take control of areas of the city with the use of light and darkness! When controlling an area of the city, that team has a greater chance of delving deeper into the lore of the game.
The lore of the game is discovered through a series of collectibles scattered throughout the game world. They can be anything from newspaper clippings to audio tapes. Upon collecting a piece of lore the player is presented with some media associated with that lore; an image, a piece of audio, even a video. Eventually, the player may obtain the ultimate piece of lore: the film!
The city will contain a number of safe zones that will help players to group together, take a breath and stock-up on equipment and energy to help them in their battles before heading back out into the dark night. In the process of taking the city back the players will find unique items and abilities that cannot be found in the safe zones.

The game reminds me of a mix of Amnesia (for its use of lighting) and Slenderman (hiding 'lore' throughout the game) and I'm looking forward to playing it. I don't usually bother with Facebook games, but this is one that offers a true multiplayer experience.

I've pledged and I can't wait to get stuck in. The game will complement the feature film (you can watch the trailer for the film on the Kickstarter page)

Get pledging!

  2. I never play games on Facebook because if I did, I'd never get anything else done. If I did play, I'd side with the humans.

    1. I'm in a similar boat - Facebook game and I don't really get on, but this kind of 'capture the flag' realtime game appeals to me.

    1. For a long while I was exactly the same; I tend to shy away from Facebook games but I reckon this one could suck me back in again.

  5. I don't 'do' Facebook but I want this to succeed if only for the fact that those characters look like Scooby Doo extras :-)
